How to Create Content Literally on the Go

Have you ever stared at a blank screen, waiting for the inspiration to start typing? The truth is, you don't need to be cooped up in an office or slumped over a laptop to create great content. You can write your next blog post, YouTube script, or podcast outline while walking to a coffee shop, strolling along the beach, or even getting a workout in.

Want to learn how?

I’ll let you in on a little secret. :)

By leveraging the voice memo app on your phone, you can bypass the blank page entirely. Here is a breakdown of why speaking your ideas out loud is highly effective, especially for busy professionals, coaches, and creators who are always on the move.

Why Dictating Your Content Works

  • It is ergonomically friendly: Instead of craning your neck over a keyboard, you can maintain good posture. You can record while walking on a treadmill, doing squats, or simply strolling around your neighborhood.

  • It boosts authenticity: Speaking your ideas out loud sounds natural. It flows like a conversation with a friend, which translates to a more engaging reading experience for your audience.

  • It cures writer's block: Talking through a topic is often much easier than trying to force words onto a blank document. Ideas literally flow out!

  • It allows for strategic multitasking: Because you are only recording audio, you can do simple, repetitive tasks simultaneously—like folding laundry, tidying your living room, or washing dishes.

  • It provides a built-in time gauge: Speaking at a normal pace for three minutes gives you a highly accurate estimate of how long a corresponding YouTube video or podcast segment will be. I find this extremely helpful. Think of it like the reverse of writing your script, and then timing yourself as you read it outloud to see how long your YouTube video will be.

The Step-by-Step Voice Memo Method

You can transform a simple audio recording into a fully drafted blog post by following this straightforward workflow.

  1. Choose your environment: Pick a place that inspires you. Being out in nature, near water, or in a bustling coffee shop often sparks the best ideas. I love walking to record and then sitting down in a coffee shop to edit the transcript and craft the blog. This makes the content creation process so much fun! I also find that I am much more productive by eliminating distractions of being at home (or even being on my device). I won’t get sucked into scrolling through social media or browsing the internet because I am just focused on recording my thoughts as I speak into voice memos.

  2. Hit record and talk: Open your phone's voice memo app, pick a topic, and speak as you naturally would. You can just hold the phone to your ear so it looks like you are on a standard phone call.

  3. Export the audio: Send the finished audio file to your computer.

  4. Transcribe the file: Upload the audio into a video editor (like Adobe Premiere Pro) and use the text-based editing feature to generate a transcript. Some voice memo apps will transcribe the audio file for you! I find tuhat mine does and this saves one extra step. There are also some transcription sites available online - some are free and others are paid.

  5. Export to a text document: Move the transcribed text into your preferred word processor.

  6. Edit your rough draft: You now have a completed first draft ready to go. Editing existing text is significantly faster and easier than writing from scratch!

Maximize Output with the Content Waterfall Effect

Once you have that initial piece of written content, you can stretch its value across multiple platforms. This ensures your ideas reach the widest possible audience with minimal extra effort.

  • Step 1: Use the transcribed audio to finalize your blog post.

  • Step 2: Adapt the blog post into a structured YouTube video script.

  • Step 3: Film the main YouTube video.

  • Step 4: Cut the long-form video into bite-sized Shorts and Instagram Reels.

  • Step 5: Extract key quotes to create text posts, tweets, and graphics for your social feeds.

By taking your content creation outside and simply speaking your mind, you can add some fun back into the daily grind while staying highly productive.
